It is vitally important that we take good care of our elderly, after all the health of every member of society is a given right. The elderly can be particularly vulnerable to diseases and illnesses so it is important to make sure that they receive all of the help that they need. This can range from ensuring that they have heating in their homes to making sure that they have enough food. It also includes ensuring that they have access to the flu jab.

Not all elderly people are frail however and a pensioner can be a fit and healthy person in their sixties, but it is still important that they have access to the NHS where they receive free health care. If you are lucky enough to be healthy then you will also be better prepared to brave cold winters that are often dark times but of great anxiety for the older generations.

As with anyone health is also a part of their daily routine and not just something to consider when illness sets in. Everyone including the elderly should ensure that they are eating a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables and that they are remaining active in their later years. Not only does exercise keep away conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease and cancer, it also generates heat meaning that winter ailments can be avoided.
